“What a super session we had when author Elaine Slade joined us virtually during our Arts Week. It was a brilliant session that was accessible to a wide range of children from Reception to Year 4. The 45 minute session was jammed packed with everything you would hope for and more. Elaine explained to the children how she got the ideas for her stories, actually showed her writing process (to the amazement of the children who saw that you don’t just get it right first time) and related it so well to our own school ethos and values. “The children loved Jasper chasing the squirrel and looking out for the squirrel on each page. We liked joining in with the "Oh NO Charlie Farley" line too …We didn't like people being mean to him but loved it at the end when he rescued the puppy.”
They also mentioned they loved seeing the pictures of the real dogs that the story was based on. This has now inspired us to do a class story about Charley Farley.
