What Staff and Children said about my visit
STAFF
What a super session we had when author Elaine Slade joined us virtually during our Arts Week. It was a brilliant session that was accessible to a wide range of children from Reception to Year 4. You can tell Elaine was a great teacher who was able to relate to all the children and keep them engaged.
The 45 minute session was jammed packed with everything you would hope for and more. Elaine explained to the children how she got the ideas for her stories, actually showed her writing process (to the amazement of the children who saw that you don’t just get it right first time) and related it so well to our own school ethos and values. Thank you Elaine for taking the time to check out our website and see what is important to us. The theme of the book fitted in so well with what we believe in.
I can’t wait for Elaine’s next book to come out so that we can invite her back for another session. Maybe looking more in depth at the writing process?

CHILDREN
The children loved Jasper chasing the squirrel and looking out for the squirrel on each page. We liked joining in with the "Oh NO Charlie Farley" line too …We didn't like people being mean to him but loved it at the end when he rescued the puppy.
They also mentioned they loved seeing the pictures of the real dogs that the story was based on. This has now inspired us to do a class story about Charley Farley.
